Mst Shapna Akter is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Oakland University (Auburn Hills, Michigan), a position she has held since August 2024. She completed her Ph.D. in Intelligent Systems and Robotics at the University of West Florida, where her dissertation focused on an “Integrated Machine Learning Framework for Mitigation of Buffer Overflow, Software Supply Chain, and Adversarial Attacks,” and where she received the Outstanding Ph.D. Student Research Award. She holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from North South University (Cum Laude, top 6% among all students).
Her research sits at the intersection of software security and Large Language Models, with a focus on automated vulnerability detection and adversarial robustness. She has over 70 publications in prestigious venues including IEEE COMPSAC, IEEE BigData, IEEE CNS, IEEE SERVICES, and journals published by Elsevier, Springer Nature, and IEEE Transactions, with 548+ citations on Google Scholar.
Dr. Akter has been awarded a NASA MSGC Seed Grant (2025). She supervises multiple Ph.D. students and serves as a Guest Editor for the journal Electronics (MDPI, Impact Factor: 2.6).
